چکیده

The phase transition ‘‘triangular lattice–vortex liquid’’ in layered highTc superconductors in the presence of pinning centers is studied. A two-dimensional system of vortices simulating the superconducting layers in a high-Tc Shubnikov phase is calculated by the Monte Carlo method. It was found that in the presence of defects the melting of the vortex lattice proceeds in two stages: First, the ideal triangular lattice transforms at low temperature (.3 K! into islands which are pinned to the pinning centers and rotate around them and then, at a higher temperature (.8 K for Tc584 K!, the boundaries of the ‘‘islands’’ become smeared and the system transforms into a vortex liquid. As the pinning force increases, the temperatures of both phase transitions shift: The temperature of the point ‘‘triangular lattice–rotating lattice’’ decreases slightly ~to .2 K! and the temperature of the phase transition ‘‘rotating lattice–vortex liquid’’ increases substantially (.70 K!. © 1997 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-3640~97!01316-9#

Correlation Lengths in the Vortex Line Liquid of a High-Tc Superconductor

We use the three dimensional uniformly frustrated XY model as a model for a high temperature superconductor in an applied magnetic field and explicitly measure the longitudinal correlation length jz in the vortex line liquid phase. We determine the scaling of jz with magnetic field and system anisotropy close to the vortex lattice melting transition. We apply our results to determine the extent...

Unified phase diagram for the three-dimensional XY model of a point-disordered type-II superconductor

We carry out extensive Monte Carlo simulations of the three-dimensional uniformly frustrated XY model with uncorrelated randomly perturbed couplings, as a model for the equilibrium behavior of an extreme type-II superconductor with quenched uncorrelated random point vortex pinning, in the presence of a uniform applied magnetic field. We map out the resulting phase diagram as a function of tempe...

Peak Effect in Superconductors: Melting of Larkin Domains

Motivated by the recent observations of the peak effect in high-Tc YBCO superconductors, we reexamine the origin of this unusual phenomenon. We show that the mechanism based on the k-dependence (nonlocality) of the vortex-lattice tilt modulus C44(k) cannot account for the essential feature of the peak effect. We propose a scenario in which the peak effect is related to the melting of Larkin dom...

The Ginzburg-Landau Theory of Type II superconductors in magnetic field

Thermodynamics of type II superconductors in electromagnetic field based on the Ginzburg Landau theory is presented. The Abrikosov flux lattice solution is derived using an expansion in a parameter characterizing the ”distance” to the superconductor normal phase transition line. The expansion allows a systematic improvement of the solution. The phase diagram of the vortex matter in magnetic fie...

Vortex liquid crystals in anisotropic type II superconductors.

In an isotropic type II superconductor in a moderate magnetic field, the transition to the normal state occurs by vortex lattice melting. In certain anisotropic cases, the vortices acquire elongated cross sections and interactions. Systems of anisotropic, interacting constituents generally exhibit liquid crystalline phases. We examine the possibility of a two step melting in homogeneous type II...
